While waiting for the official Windows Phone 7 launch, set to take place later today, we should have a look at some more news regarding the upcoming release of handsets running under the new mobile operating system.

One of the wireless carriers to have Windows phone 7 devices available for its users before the end of the ongoing year is Telstra in Australia, and confirmation on this emerged today.

The image to the left shows a display put in place at a Telstra store in Melbourne Australia, which shows two Windows Phone 7 handsets on their way to the wireless carrier.

One of these phones is the HTC Mozart, a recent article on Engadget notes, while the other is an unknown LG smartphone, which might be unveiled officially as soon as today.

The best part of the news is that these handsets are set for an October 21st release, as the “coming 21-10-10” fine print shows.

Basically, this means that Australian users would have the possibility to taste Windows Phone 7 the very same day as European users would.

Nothing is official as of yet, but all should be unveiled in a matter of hours, as previously reported.

In case there are some who still doubt that Microsoft would indeed launch Windows Phone 7 today, we should note that some more proof on the matter comes from the Redmond-based company itself, which has just updated its Zune desktop software to include support for Windows Phone 7.

The desktop application was announced before as being the solution one would use to connect a desktop PC with a new Windows Phone 7 device, and the new release, version 4.7, reportedly includes all that is necessary for this to happen.

The announcement regarding Windows Phone 7's landing on shelves is near, and it remains to be seen which of the previous rumors would pan out and which would prove false.
