Owners of a Nokia Lumia 710 smartphone on the network of O2 in Germany should rejoice, as the wireless carrier has confirmed today via Twitter that the handset is pegged for an upgrade to Windows Phone 7.8 before the end of this month.

The announcement falls in line with previous confirmation coming from Nokia themselves, which suggested that the OS upgrade was set to land on handsets in a matter of weeks.

No official release date has been provided as of now, but Nokia did start to ship new Lumia phones with the new OS on board a few weeks back.

Windows Phone 7.8 will provide users with a new start screen, lock screen enhancements and support for Lens applications (as in Windows Phone 8), as well as with a variety of other enhancements and performance improvements.
