The update will be available for download via Zune desktop software

Lots of Windows Phone fans are anxiously waiting for Microsoft to release the next major update for the mobile platform.

Dubbed Windows Phone 7.8, the update has been previously confirmed for Q1 2013, but no exact release date has been given.

There were numerous reports in the past pointing to a possible January release and today, we have one more confirmation Windows Phone 7.8 could go live this month.

UK-based carrier O2 has just tweeted a timeframe for the release of Windows Phone 7.8. An O2 UK rep replied to a customers asking when the update will be available for its Nokia Lumia 800:

“Hi there, the Windows Phone 7.8 update will be released by the end of January and will be available via Zune.” So there you have it. Stay tuned for more info on this one.
