Windows Phone 7.5 Mango has started to roll out only a few weeks ago, yet Microsoft is confident that the platform will manage to prove its superiority against rival solutions very soon.

Moreover, Andy Lees, president of Microsoft's Windows Phone division, says that the platform will be able to gain market share in front of Android and iPhone 4S, a recent article on The Seattle Times reads.

In a recent interview with the news site, Andy Lees said that iPhone 4S can be seen as a missed opportunity, and that Google's Android operating system is becoming chaotic.

When compared to the previous release of Windows Phone, Mango brings over 500 enhancements and new features, all meant to better position the mobile OS in its battle for supremacy on the smartphone area.

Many analysts believe that the OS will indeed manage to impress a lot of people, and that it will become one of the top three platforms in the world in a few years. Maybe even one of the top two OSes out there.

From Microsoft's perspective, now is the right time to act. Mango will help it gain ground on the smartphone market, since it comes with features and capabilities that are similar to what other platforms out there have to offer.

“I think, from an end user's experience on the software, there's a lot of interesting reviews written comparing us to iOS 5 and the amount that we've got done in 11 months — so some people (are) making comparisons of pace,” Andy Lees reportedly stated.

“I think Android is heading down this chaotic phase. We want to enable OEMs (original equipment manufacturers), we want to enable operators, but we don't want chaos,” he also said.

Microsoft is set to make sure that more users have access to Windows Phone devices, and will bring handsets powered by the platform to the $100 (around 75 Euros) price point, or even lower. All during this holiday season, Lees says.
