Leading software solutions provider BSQUARE Corporation, the global distributor for Windows Phone, announced on Monday the new Windows Phone 6 Starter Edition SKU, a software solution meant to help OEMs deliver their products to new and emerging markets. According to the company, its customers are not only handset makers that build devices for consumers, but also rugged device manufacturers and other OEMs.

There will be two versions of the Windows Phone 6 Starter Edition SKU offered by Bsquare, the company added, noting that they include multi-language versions with and without Microsoft Office Mobile. At the same time, Bsquare underlines that the Windows Phone Starter Edition SKU comes with support for a wide range of frequencies, including 2G (GSM), 2.5G (CDMA2000 xRTT, EDGE, GPRS), CDMA (Rev A, EV-DO Revision A) and TD-SCDMA.

“Businesses are hungry for mobile solutions that can support the needs of both knowledge workers and field service professionals while also providing scalability to IT organizations,” said Brian Crowley, Bsquare’s president and CEO. “Windows Phone is an ideal platform for developing smarter, more compelling devices and the new Windows Phone 6 Starter Edition SKU makes it available to a broader set of device manufacturers globally. By providing the technical support, training, software products and engineering services to a broader base of customers, we offer a complete solution and are helping expand the Windows Phone device ecosystem beyond the traditional smartphone.”

The Windows Phone 6 Starter Edition is only one of the products offered by Bsquare, as other versions of the Windows Phone operating system are also present in its offering, including those aimed at higher-end consumer devices or those for vertical market devices. Additionally, the company notes that new Bsquare customers will make use of the Windows Phone platform for devices that include mobile terminals targeted at retailers, rugged field computing devices, and more.

“Bsquare is now serving the broader mobility market by making Windows Phone licensing available to a wider audience,” stated Nalin Rohatgi, mobility channel business development manager at Microsoft Corp. “OEMs can choose the Windows Phone operating system for vertical market devices to help customers extend their business systems to mobile devices.”
