Microsoft is getting ready to introduce a new WP version

Microsoft has already confirmed that Windows Phone 10 will be released next year at about the same time as Windows 10, but the company hasn’t provided any other details as to when users could get the very first testing version of this new version.

It appears, however, that this moment isn’t so far away, as rumor now has it that Microsoft is already testing Windows Phone 10 internally.

Of course, this doesn’t necessarily mean that users could also get their hands on this testing build, but it’s pretty clear that Microsoft is working hard to make it available for everyone as soon as possible.

Previous reports on this indicated that Microsoft could introduce a testing version of Windows Phone 10 in early 2015, specifically for testing purposes, as the company is preparing some pretty big changes for the platform.

Windows Phone and Windows RT could be merged as part of this release, with Microsoft reportedly planning to launch just a single platform that would thus power both tablets and smartphones.

Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2 also in the works

Twitter user and former Microsoft employee @Nawzil8, who has until now provided us with quite a decent amount of internal information regarding Redmond’s new projects, has revealed in a short post that several projects are in the works right now, including a new update for Windows Phone.

Windows Phone 10, Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1 8.10.14200, and Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2 8.10.15XXX are all being tested internally, he reveals citing his own sources.

Needless to say, each of these updates would bring a significant number of improvements for Windows Phones, but it remains to be seen if Microsoft plans to release the last two before the end of the year or not.

What to expect

While it’s a bit too early to talk about Windows Phone 10 improvements, people close to the matter previously revealed that Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2 could come with better support for new processors, which would in their turn allow the use of new hardware, but also with Cortana in more regions across the globe.

Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2 was initially expected to launch last month, but it appears that Microsoft needs more time for testing purposes, so November could be the month that might bring us the new pack of improvements.

Of course, an official announcement on this is not yet available, but with more improvements ready for Cortana and other Windows Phone features, the release might be closer than we expect it to be.
