Customers still running the predecessor of Windows MultiPoint Server 2011 can download a free tool from Microsoft designed to help them resolve issues impacting the platform.

The Windows MultiPoint Server 2010 Log Collector is now live on the Microsoft Download Center, and as the official label implies it streamlines the collection of system information necessary in resolving system issues.

Logs and debugging data can be harvested seamlessly from Windows MultiPoint Server 2010 deployments and made readily available to support technicians.

“Once the log collector installation has completed, the tool allows you to enable additional logging for the MultiPoint Server system, and to gather the existing logs into a zip file that can be reviewed and/or sent to your support personnel,” Microsoft informed.

“This tool does not automatically send information from your computer; it only gathers the data and packages it into an easy-to-use format.”

The software giant is providing this tool in order to make it as easy as possible for customers to supply support personnel with the MultiPoint Server logs which can help them identify the source of issues as well as provide a fix.

The Log Collector is an option install for Windows MultiPoint Server 2010, but not the same can be said about the latest release of the platform.

Windows MultiPoint Server 2011 includes the Log Collector tool by default, and as such, customers need not download the standalone version from the Redmond company.

IT professionals administering Windows MultiPoint Server 2010 and 2011 deployments can head over to the download page for the Log Collector in order to get additional information on how to install and use the tool.

Microsoft released Windows MultiPoint Server 2011 earlier this year, making the new server OS available worldwide, roughly a year after the launch of Windows MultiPoint Server 2010.
