Norwegian software company Opera Software announced today the launch of a native version of Opera Mini 5 beta for mobile phones powered by Microsoft's Windows Mobile 5 or higher operating system. According to the company, the integration of Opera Mini with Windows Mobile enables it to offer an optimized version of its browser so as to deliver enhanced performance and experience to users. Moreover, the new version of Opera Mini does not require Java, which means that all Windows Mobile-based phones are compatible with it.

In addition, the company also notes that the new version of Opera Mini 5 beta for Windows Mobile still packs the same features as the Java-based version, but that it also includes a series of new additions to the equation. Among the renowned features of the browser, we can count tabbed browsing, the password manager, bookmarks and Speed Dial, which have been built in so that users can enjoy great convenience while on the move.

According to the company, Opera Mini comes with other benefits too, and one of them is its capability to compress data traffic by up to 90 percent, which leads to an improved page-loading and overall speed. Additionally, this feature also results in an impressive reduction in data load. Users will also benefit from lower browsing costs when navigating on the Internet on a pay-per-MB data plan or when roaming.

“Windows Mobile deserves a mobile browser that looks better, handles better and delivers better than the default browser,” said Dag Olav Norem, vice president of Products, Opera Software. “Even though Opera has 50 million satisfied Opera Mini users, we always seek ways to improve our browser for each and every mobile phone user out there. Now, we are pleased to offer the world's most popular mobile Web browser as a native Windows Mobile application.”

The Opera Mini browser is available for download for free for Windows Mobile 5 and 6 mobile phone users, who will find it at m.opera.com/next. As stated above, the download does not require Java to be present on the handset.
