Sony Ericsson's Xperia X1 mobile phone is reportedly getting ready to receive its own share of Windows Mobile 6.5. We already learned about a series of Windows Mobile-based handsets that will receive the 6.5 touch, including the Toshiba TG01, the HTC Touch Pro2, the HTC Touch Diamond2 or Samsung's Omnia II, and it seems that Xperia X1 is also lining up for the update.

Nothing is official on the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1, unlike with the other handsets, which have been announced by their makers to receive the update, yet it seems that the rumor is pretty solid. According to pocketnow, the piece of information comes from an XDA developer who claims to have an official Windows Mobile 6.5 ROM for the X1.

Some details on what the said ROM includes have been also unveiled:
The Build in the rom is a older 6.5., but what is important is:
- New XIP (real x1 nk);
- New OEM DRIVERS etc.;
- Some drivers from x2;
- New netcf 3.7 (final).

Dont [sic] expect new x1 stuff in the rom... there is none... what is important is that its [sic] now a[n] official 6.5 base... second... this means that they are gonna release a 6.5 update for x1 sometime in the future.

That being said, we should wait and see whether the Japanese-Swedish phone maker will indeed bring its older device to the upcoming operating system flavor. As many of you might already know, Sony Ericsson already announced a second version of the WinMo-powered handset, the Xperia X2, which will come to the market as a Windows phone right from the start, and it might leave the X1 aside to attract users towards the new mobile phone.

On the other hand, the X1 hasn't had the success its maker expected it to have, and an upgrade to the latest Windows Mobile iteration might make it a little more appealing. Stay tuned to learn more details on this.

Nice phone but not exactly user friendly for anyone with big hands. Need to use the stylus for most things although the keyboard is good. Overall build quality is excellent. Very tough and durable little phone but software is too slow to respond to commands.
Loudspeaker is very poor and buttons far too small however the touch pad is good.
for the compact size of the phone the screen is a good size and colour definition good.
Camera quality in daylight is excellent but not quite as good at night with built in light/flash. Even so, pictures enlarge on a PC with good resolution for close up detail.
Panels are a bit limited but what is available is functional and adequate. With everything in use the battery life is poor (less than a day); not what you would expect from a 'Sony Ericsson' phone.
The only thing that I don't like is that when the phone is in use and running low on battery power, the phone tends to run very hot and becomes uncomfortable to the ear. May just be me but I have had three of theses phones and they all behave in the same way.
over all I would give this phone 7out of 10.
If this phone had voice dialing it would go a long way to improving it's user friendliness and would push my score up to 8 out of 10.
I like Sony Ericsson phones and hope that you see my views as honest and objective.
Kind Regards,
Gidster.
