Samsung Jack, the Windows Mobile-based handset available for purchase in the US on the airwaves of AT&T, has just received an update to the latest flavor of Microsoft's mobile platform, namely Windows Mobile 6.5. As many of you might already know, the Samsung Jack has been released on the market earlier this year with Windows Mobile 6.1 on board, and now those who have purchased it can enjoy the latest flavor of the OS on their handsets.

The new software version is available for download from Samsung's website, where it is tagged as recommended. Users will have the opportunity to enjoy a series of new features on their handsets as soon as the update is performed, including access to the Windows Marketplace for Mobile, a new Internet Explorer Mobile, Vlingo for Windows Phone, or AT&T Wi-Fi connectivity.

According to the South Korean mobile phone maker, the update process to Windows Mobile 6.5 will only take between 5-10 minutes on Samsung Jack (SGH-i637), considering that the system has been already prepared for the update. After updating their handsets, users will enjoy the Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.5 Standard Edition, the company adds.

Here's how the new features are described by Samsung:

- Windows Marketplace for Mobile: Discover apps that unlock the power of your Windows Phone, shop securely with confidence, and download instantly to your phone.
- Internet Explorer Mobile: Internet Explorer Mobile 6 delivers the same high quality browsing and media viewing experience that you’ve come to expect on your desktop computer. If you can see it in Internet Explorer on your PC, you’ll be able to see it just as well on your Windows Phone, whether the content you want is on YouTube, a game using Flash animation, or on a social site like Facebook or MySpace.
- AT&T WiFi: Automatic access to over 20,000 AT&T Wi-Fi Hot Spots nationwide is available on the Samsung Jack and is included in select smartphone data plans. This allows for fast and easy downloads of your favorite music, streaming videos, games, and more.
- Vlingo for Windows Phone: Instantly send a text or email message, call a friend, search the Web, open native applications and more, all by speaking into your Samsung Jack Windows Phone.

Those of you who would like to perform the update will be able to find more details on the process on Samsung's website here. You should verify that the phone's battery has been fully charged, and you should also backup all the data on the phone, so as to make sure that no important files are lost after the update.
