Redmond-based software giant Microsoft has finally decided to deliver to developers around the world the Software Development Kits for its Windows Mobile 6.5 Professional and Standard mobile client. It's a well known fact that the company released the operating system on the market back in October 2009, and the release of the SDK is made prior to the expected launch of a new version of the platform, Windows Mobile 6.5.3.

“The Windows Mobile 6.5 SDKs provide documentation, sample code, header and library files, emulator images, and tools to Visual Studio that let you build applications for Windows Mobile 6.5,” an excerpt from Microsoft's download page reads. “The Windows Mobile 6.5 SDK must also be installed in order to use any of the Windows Mobile 6.5 API or samples,” the document continues.

The images included in the Windows Mobile 6.5 SDK are the Windows Mobile 6.5 Professional SDK and the Windows Mobile 6.5 Standard SDK. In addition, the company also announced that there are a series of locales available, including 0804 CHS Chinese Simplified, 0409 USA English, 0407 GER German, 040c FRA French, 0410 ITA Italian, 0c0a ESN Spanish, and 0411 JPN Japanese.

The Windows Mobile 6.5 SDKs can be used on the following operating systems from the maker: Windows 7, Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2, Windows Server 2008, Windows Vista, and Windows XP Service Pack 3. Those who would like to build applications for both the Professional and Standard versions of Windows Mobile 6.5 will have to download both SDKs, Microsoft states, adding that “Windows Mobile 6.5 Professional SDK contains Windows Mobile 6.5 Professional emulator images and one Windows Mobile 6.5 Classic emulator image.”

It should also be noted that there are additional software requirements for the installation of the SDK, including Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Professional Edition and above or Microsoft Visual Studio 2005, Standard Edition or above (Express Editions are not supported), Microsoft .NET Compact Framework v2 SP2, and ActiveSync 4.5 for Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP, or Windows Mobile Device Center for synchronizing data in Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008 and Windows 7.

UPDATE: It seems that Microsoft has removed the SDK downloads from its website. We will let you know as soon as the files are back on server.
