Microsoft has released an update for Office Communicator Mobile 2007 R2, tailoring the client to the next iteration of the Windows Mobile operating system. The latest Office Communicator Mobile 2007 R2 refresh went live on the Microsoft Download Center on July 7th, 2009, and is currently available to customers running unified communications client for
Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2. Microsoft designed Communicator Mobile to integrate seamlessly with Windows Mobile version 6.0 and higher, including 6.1 and the upcoming 6.5 flavor. The software is aimed for Pocket PC and smartphone devices.
Essentially, the Redmond company is in fact re-releasing the update. According to information provided by the software giant, the initial launch date was February 2, 2009. Communicator Mobile 2007 R2, which is also set up to support scenarios in which users leverage an enterprise telephony system with Single Number Reach functionality to make work calls, has been kicked up a notch with the update, in preparation for the availability of devices running Windows Mobile 6.5.
In this regard, Microsoft
enumerated some of the fixes that the update package brings to the table, including: “Homescreen support for new homescreens in Windows Mobile 6.5+ phones. Integration within the phone dialer for Windows Mobile 6.5+ phones. Communicator Mobile 2007 R2 now recognizes when the phone is roaming, and by default does not sign in to roaming networks. Additional support for joining conference calls from a Windows Mobile appointment. To do this, press Menu, and then press Join Conference. Enables users to log on with a username of the format user@example.com, in addition to domain\user.”
But, of course, there is more. Microsoft revealed that following the implementation of the update users would notice that as far as placing Call via Work calls was concerned, callbacks would be accepted automatically. Moreover “Microsoft Installer (MSI) installation on Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) fails. In this situation, users should install Communicator Mobile 2007 R2 by using a .Cab installation. AT&T FUZE devices set for High-Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) connection cannot handle voice and data at the same time. This causes Call via Work calls to fail unless the device is reverted to 3rd Generation (3G) by disabling HSDPA,” the company explained.
