Windows Mobile 6.5 is set to come to the market in about a month from now on, namely on October 6, as the Redmond-based company announced only yesterday. Given the close launch date, it is working hard on giving the OS flavor some of its latest touches, and new builds of the platform come to life almost daily, some of which also make it on the web through various sources.

It was only a few days ago that we saw Windows Mobile 6.5 Build 23037 leaked on the Internet and available for download, and now another interim version, Windows Mobile 6.5 Build 23041, has emerged. According to the guys over at Redmond Pie, the build was compiled a few days ago, on August 30, and there are only a series of minor changes that it brings forth.

The list of novelties that the new Windows Mobile 6.5 Build 23041 comes with includes:
- The buttons on the bottom bar are now more ovalish than the roundish buttons, which were found in previous builds of Windows Mobile 6.5.
- Hardware buttons for volume and camera are now working.
- The status bar on the top has iPhone-like slide effect now. You will now have to slide it to get into the magnified status bar.
- More speedy and responsive.
- Numerous other bug fixes.

There are also a series of screenshots available for the Windows Mobile 6.5 Build 23041, coming from the XDA-Developers forum and from HTCPedia, so those who might not have the opportunity to install the new build could make an idea of what it looks like. The build is available for download via various sites.

October 6 is not too far, and until that date arrives, we should see a lot of other new Windows Mobile 6.5 builds emerging around the web and showing the progress Microsoft is making with the OS iteration. It remains to be seen how WM 6.5 will look in the end, and how it will prepare users for the upcoming Windows Mobile 7, which should land during 2010.

The builds in the 23xxx branch have nothing to do with the October 6 launch. The version that will be launched that date has already been compiled in the 21xxx branch a few weeks ago. I don't know what the 23xxx branch is for, perhaps for WM 6.6 or 6.5 R2 or...?
