Following the release of Windows Mobile 6.5 back in October last year, Redmond-based company Microsoft has been rumored to be working on at least two other versions of its mobile client, one of which has been already spotted on its websites, namely Windows Mobile 6.5.3. This OS flavor emerged into the wild quite a few times before, via a long series of leaked builds, showing that the software giant is focused on enhancing the touch capabilities of its platform.

One of these leaked builds with the Windows Mobile 6.5.3 platform is Build 23518, which apparently leaked on the web via XDA developers forum a while ago, as pocketnow notes, and which has been recently caught on video. Those of you who have watched the evolution of the various branches of Windows Mobile 6.5 might already know what this flavor is all about, and what it seems to be promising to users. However, having them all included in a single presentation is something rather useful, so take a look at the video below to learn more.

It is also widely known that Windows Mobile 6.5.3 is set to make an official appearance on the market in the very near future, most probably next month at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain. There have been a great deal of rumors regarding what Microsoft is set to unveil at the event and, while Windows Mobile 6.5.3 seems good to go, there are some who say it might be launched as Windows Mobile 6.6. Moreover, the software giant might also unveil that next-generation Windows Mobile 7 OS that we're all waiting for.

WM 6.5.3 marks another step in the evolution of Microsoft's mobile OS. It opens the road to WM7 and, even if the latter has been reported to lack compatibility with applications built for the older versions of the platform, things might actually change by the time it is launched on the market. One way or the other, we'll still have to wait a little longer before WM7 arrives on handsets and, since WM 6.5.3 is almost here, learning more on it will show us what the future might have in store for us.
