An updated version of the Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool is now available for download from the Redmond company for both 32-bit (x86) and 64-bit (x64) versions of Windows.

Softpedia readers have already been able to read about the Redmond company’s involvement in taking down the Kelihos botnet, after it did the same with Rustock and Waledac.

Considered the successor of Waledac 1.0, Kelihos was even dubbed Waledac 2.0, and the cybercriminals behind it were using large portions of code from the original botnet.

Kelihos malicious code infects Windows PCs transforming them into zombie computers under the control of the cybercriminals managing the botnet.

The latest release of the Malicious Software Removal Tool is designed to clean Kelihos zombie machines and let users regain full control over their computers.
