Microsoft has announced that it has made the Windows Live Writer 1.0.109 Beta generally available for download, delivering a solution for composing blog posts via Windows Live Spaces
but addressing compatibility issues with existing blog services. In this regard, Microsoft has revealed that it has made the Writer client compatible with Blogger, LiveJournal, TypePad, WordPress and with additional weblogs, while providing support for RSD (Really Simple Discoverability), the Metaweblog API, and the Movable Type API.
The Live Writer's WYSIWYG authoring capabilities allow the author of the post to preview and edit blog styles prior to publication. "Writer also includes other views including HTML source-code editing and web preview mode," Microsoft describes its product.
Writer also allows bloggers to insert photos into their blog, uploading them directly to the weblog provider via newMediaObject API or through a FTP server, while presenting editing capabilities with contextual tools. Additionally, Live Writer supports the insertion of Windows Live Local maps directly into a post. "The Windows Live Writer SDK allows developers to extend the capabilities of Writer to publish additional content types: images, embedded video or audio players, and tags from tagging services," described the Redmond Company. An official release date for the final product has not been announced.
