Windows Live Wave 3 brings to the table no less than 25 GB of free online storage. Via Windows Live SkyDrive Wave 3, users can now benefit from five-fold the capacity with the introduction of the latest iteration of the service. Microsoft is advertising the increase in storage space as the main enhancement associated with Windows Live SkyDrive moving to Wave 3 level. However, there are additional improvements, both under-the-hood and on the surface.

“SkyDrive is your place for easily storing or sharing files, documents, pictures or anything else. You now get 25GB to store files on SkyDrive – whether that’s photos or other kinds of files,” revealed Director of Windows Live Product Management, Dharmesh M. Mehta.

On the surface, Wave 3 of Windows Live SkyDrive comes with a brand new graphical user interface aligned with the rest of the Windows Live applications and services. Under-the-hood, according to Microsoft, the sharing capabilities have been kicked up a notch, while the overall level of control users have over their files has been increased.

Wave 3 has added support for six more regions worldwide, and 13 new languages, as Microsoft aims to play the localization key when it comes to attracting new users to the service. At the same time, Windows Live SkyDrive Wave 3 has been optimized to serve as an online digital photo storage service. The latest release of SkyDrive is offering users larger thumbnails, online slideshow functionality and people tagging capabilities.

However, beyond the storage increase, SkyDrive also has: “an updated and enhanced design, including rich photo sharing; an improved file upload experience, so it’s easier for you to move files from your PC to SkyDrive; flexible controls on who can access your files on SkyDrive – so you can change the permissions on a folder to private, when you want to store files just for yourself, share it with some of your contacts, or make it public, for files you want to share with the entire world,” Mehta added.
