The desktop instant messaging client from Microsoft is old news. The company is currently focusing its efforts on Windows Live WebMessenger. That's right, Windows Live WebMessenger. I am sure that you are already familiar with Microsoft's MSN Web Messenger. But the fact of the matter is that MSN Web Messenger could do with an upgrade. And apparently the Redmond company is taking it on the same road as the desktop client. In this context, MSN Web Messenger will evolve under the Windows Live brand umbrella. Microsoft has yet to confirm this piece of information, but according to independent reports the company is already dogfooding Windows Live WebMessenger.

At this point in time, Microsoft is testing the new version of WebMessenger exclusively inhouse. The Live WebMessenger is to MSN Web Messenger what Windows Live Messenger was to MSN Messenger - it is the future. Still, while this is Microsoft's way of growing its browser based instant messaging application, the basic functionality will remain unchanged. Users will be able to sign in Live WebMessenger with their Windows Live Messenger account and enjoy the main functionality associated with the Microsoft desktop IM client.

As actual details are scarce, there is little information available over what Windows Live WebMessenger will contain. One certain thing is that Microsoft has introduced a redesigned graphical user interface to the product. The New UI shares the overall visual style with the current suite of the Windows Live online products and services. Users of the new Windows Live WebMessenger will be able to add their image and display a personal status message as well as carry out multiple conversations at a time via stacked tabs.

What is official, and has been confirmed by Laurent Delaporte, a Director of Microsoft France (directeur g?n?ral adjoint de Microsoft France) is that the company is cooking a range of new releases for all its Windows Live products and services. In November, new variants of Windows Live Messenger 8.5, Mail, Writer, Photo Gallery, Family Safety and Hotmail, Events, Skydrive and Live Search 2.0 will be made available.
