With the Beta of Windows Live Wave 3 available for download since September, Microsoft is laboring to tailor Windows Live Mail to various markets around the world, and in this regard the recipe is rather simple, involving localized versions of the product, but also spellchecking support. At this point in time, the Redmond giant delivers spellchecking support for no less than nine languages, with Stephen Sisk, Program Manager, Windows Live Mail, promising that work is in progress to make the capability available for additional languages. Sisk however failed to point to a deadline or to any specific language next in line to get spellchecking support.

“Windows Live Mail now supports spellchecking in English, French, German, Korean, Dutch, Spanish, Turkish, Portuguese (Brazil) and Italian! We think spellchecking is an important aspect of using email and we’re glad to offer it to more of our users,” Sisk revealed. "Additionally, Windows Live Mail has the ability to check with Microsoft’s servers to see if there are any new languages available for spellchecking - this means that if you use a computer with one of these new languages, you’ve probably already been asked if you wanted to spellcheck in your language."

Windows Live Mail Wave 3 is designed to automatically detect the language used and tailor spellchecking to it in accordance. This is possible because of the intimate connection of Windows Live Mail and the Windows operating system which is set up for a specific language. By unchecking the “Check spelling in current input language” box under Options, and the Spelling tab, users will be able to specify another language for spellchecking, with Microsoft offering additional languages for installation from its servers.

“If you only use one language, it means that you don’t have to mess around with your spellchecking settings - Windows Live Mail just knows what language to use for spellchecking. However, if you often send mail in different languages you can use the Language Bar, a Windows tool that allows you to easily change languages in Windows. Whenever you do this, Windows Live Mail will pick up that change in a couple seconds and switch the language being used to spellcheck the email you’re composing,” Sisk added.

The entire Windows Live Wave 3 Beta suite, including Windows Live Mail Beta, can be downloaded with the package installer available via this link.
