Microsoft has tweaked the photo email slide show feature associated with its free email client under the Windows Live brand umbrella. The Redmond company indicated that it had introduced an update designed to take the online slide show component one step further. Essentially, focus was placed on making better use of the viewing real estate space available to the user. Additionally, following the update, Silverlight will be an integral part of the Windows Live Photos image slide shows, explained Tanja Fournier, Windows Live program manager.

“Although the photo e-mail feature has been around for several years already in Mail, we made a few recent changes to the online slide show to make it even better,” Fournier added. “We took away a lot of the dead space in the old slide show, allowing for a larger viewing area, a much cleaner presentation, and the same beautiful effects you see in all our slide shows on Windows Live Photos.

The new slide show uses Microsoft Silverlight technology to match the background color to your image, so it always appears in the best light.”

Windows Live Mail offers users a way around having to send emails with large digital images attached, consistently increasing the size of the message, and making it problematic for content to be accessed via slower Internet connections. At the same time the Redmond company's email client can bypass the maximum attachment size limit. Windows Live Mail 's photo e-mail feature is designed to permit end users to upload their

content online, and instead place only thumbnails of the digital images in the actual email. The recipient of the message will be able to access all photos via an online slide show, and have the option to not only view the images but also download them.

The latest version of Windows Live Mail came with Wave 3 at the start of this year. Windows Live Mail, along with the remaining Windows Live clients for messaging, blogging, photo viewing, etc. have all been reunited as the Windows Live Essentials package, a suite designed to connect Windows 7 to the Cloud.

Microsoft continues to change technology in such a way as to cause major problems for seniors with limited computer knowledge. Use of Silverlight to increase the difficulty of downloading email photo's is a prime example and will result in this senior looking for a simpler system in the future.
