Microsoft has made available for download a fresh beta release of Windows Live Mail Desktop, the desktop client for Windows Live. Build 1172 features the same capabilities as the predecessor
build did, enabling email accounts, newsgroups and RSS feeds management, but the beta refresh also brings a wide array of improvements to the table. The only shortcoming to the release is the fact that it is not available worldwide.

"All in all, we've fixed hundreds of bugs since the last build that our Beta testers received! I think when you install this latest build, you will likely see improvements all over the product - but, as usual, there are a few areas I'd like to specifically point out so you can try them out and give them a real run for their money," said Tanja Fournier, Program Manager on the Customer Satisfaction Team for Windows Live Mail desktop.

Performance improvements are at the top of the enhancements introduced with Build 1172. Now, the migration of your Windows Mail accounts with the first installing of WLMd is supported even for Windows Vista. Microsoft has also modified the Minimize to System Tray feature introduced in the prior beta build.

Windows Live Mail Desktop Build 1172 has been optimized for integration with the Windows Desktop Search v3.0. Synchronization, updates list management and Windows Live Spaces "Friends" integrations are also tuned up areas of the new build.
