Microsoft and Apple are hard at work on resolving issues that prevent Windows Live Hotmail and the iPad from playing nice together. Mike Schackwitz, program manager, Windows Live Hotmail team, confirmed that the Redmond company was well aware of problems reported by end users. Customers that have recently acquired an Apple iPad have experienced difficulties running Windows Live Hotmail under normal conditions. According to input delivered to Microsoft, it appears that users have not been able to write new messages or reply to emails in their Windows Live Hotmail inboxes from iPad devices.

Unfortunately, we’ve seen some issues with using Hotmail on the new Apple iPad. Specifically, composing and replying to an email is not working for some of our users,” Schackwitz explained. Up to this point in time, Microsoft has not offered any specific details related to the issues experienced by some customers. “Rest assured that we’re working with Apple to understand the issues, and we’ll fix them as quickly as possible.”

In this regard, it is hard to tell whether Microsoft’s Windows Live Hotmail or Apple’s iPad are at fault. Still, the software giant did indicate that only a limited number of users were experiencing issues, as opposed to Windows Live Hotmail not working across all iPad devices. While fixes for the problems are in the works, neither Microsoft nor Apple has provided a deadline for when users will be able to enjoy full Hotmail functionality from their tablet devices. For the time being, the Redmond company has found a temporary solution that will allow iPad customers to compose and reply emails in Hotmail without any issues.

“In the meantime, we have directed all iPad traffic to our mobile Hotmail website. Alternatively, you can set up the iPad email client to use POP to download your Hotmail,” Schackwitz added.
