Windows Live Hotmail is no longer amputated as of October 15th, 2009. The Redmond company has revealed that, following the development and implementation of a fix for a security issue related to the image attaching capabilities of its email service, it has restored full functionality to Windows Live Hotmail. In this regard, end users will be able to notice that they can now add pictures to an email message just like before.

“Last month, due to a security issue in the photo upload tool, the Hotmail team temporarily removed it while building an updated version of the tool. You may have already noticed this - the tool is back!” revealed a member of the Windows Live Hotmail Team.

In August 2009, Microsoft took the drastic measure amputating the ability to add photos in the body of messages. At that time, the software giant revealed that it had come across a vulnerability triggered by an incompatibility between Windows Live Hotmail and Internet Explorer. In order to ensure that Windows Live Hotmail users remained protected, Microsoft removed the feature entirely. However, with the security vulnerability now resolved, Windows Live Hotmail users will be able to once again add images directly to their emails.

“Instead of adding pictures as attachments to your Hotmail messages by clicking Attach and then File and then selecting the pictures you would like to include, Hotmail brings you a tool so you can more efficiently select and add multiple photos to a Hotmail message in Internet Explorer in a couple clicks: select Attach and then Photo” the Windows Live Hotmail Team representative added.

Microsoft is currently hard at work on the next iteration of Windows Live Hotmail, namely the Wave 4 release. The Redmond company has already introduced the first development milestone of Windows Live Hotmail Wave 4, and is making its way to the Beta release.
