Microsoft is confirming officially what some users of Windows Live Hotmail Wave 3 have already undoubtedly noticed. The service no longer offers them the option to insert an image into the body of a message. The Redmond company explains that it has disabled the feature due to security concerns. According to the software giant, the addition of digital images into the body of Windows Live Hotmail messages via Internet Explorer
led to a security hole associated with photo uploads. Microsoft offers no details as to what the problem is exactly, nor does it specify the versions of Internet Explorer that manage to bring the worst out of Windows Live Hotmail.

“Some of you may have noticed that lately, you can no longer add photos directly into the body of a Windows Live Hotmail message the way you used to do. The Windows Live team is constantly reviewing Hotmail to ensure quality service to our customers. During a recent review, we identified an incompatibility with Internet Explorer that caused a security flaw with photo uploads, and we made the decision to temporarily remove the feature,” a Windows Live Hotmail team member states.

Microsoft only indicates that it is now aware of the issue and working to resolve it. A specific deadline was not provided but the Redmond company expects that the security flaw will be dealt with by the end of the coming month. Once the problem has been resolved, the software giant will re-enable the feature amputated temporarily and will restore full functionality to Windows Live Hotmail.

“The Hotmail team takes security very seriously and we expect to bring back the photo upload feature by the end of September. In the meantime, you can still add pictures as attachments to your Hotmail messages, by clicking Attach, and then File, and then selecting the picture you want to include. We apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause you until this fix is complete,” the Windows Live team representative notes.

I have been trying on my own since October to add photo's to my email. I thought it was a problem with my computer and had it serviced at an expense to me. It would have been nice if we using hotmail received an email to say that you had the problem. I really enjoy using hotmail and look forward to adding photo's again soon.

Thanks for finding the problem on your end and working swiftly to fix it.

An avid user.

When I first started using Hotmail, I had no problem inserting images. Suddenly my images were not making it to their destination. I thought that I was messing up but I could not fathom how. It would have been real nice to have been informed that this feature had been disabled. I was getting frustrated very close to dumping Hotmail. The only thing the stopped me was the hassle of having to notify all of my mail recipients. I understand that there are technical challenges with Hotmail being a WEB based application but this is a major feature and I hope that this problem has a high priority.
