Version 4.1 of the software development kit for the Windows Live Admin Center is now available for download from Microsoft. Developers might already be familiar with the Windows Live Admin Center SDK having already leveraged version 4.0, or an earlier release, when the Kit was labeled Windows Live Custom Domains SDK. According to the Redmond company the Windows Live Admin Center SDK is designed to allow “customers to programmatically manage their Admin Center domain by means of a web service,” Microsoft explained. The company noted that Admin Center delivered support not only for all Custom Domains customers but also for Live@edu and Windows Live@net, and additional premium market offerings.

Among the contents of the SDK, the software giant emphasized the inclusion of sample applications set up to streamline the management process associated with the service. “This version of the SDK expands on version 4.0 of the SDK in the following area: Removed the CSVImport sample application. Adding Live IDs to an Outlook Live domain using CSVImport has been deprecated as of June, 2009,” Microsoft informed.

In addition to delivering an updated version of the Windows Live Admin Center SDK, the Redmond company has also refreshed the documentation for version 4.1 made available via MSDN. Customers can of course access the resources free of charge. The SDK itself also offers documentation for SOAP calls for each function. By downloading the software development kit, customers will be getting command-line sample applications along with code samples for Visual Studio C#. The SDK brings to the table more components such as a Win32 user management sample application complete with the source code, and a CsvSync directory synchronization sample application, for which Microsoft is also offering code samples.

“The Windows Live Admin Center SDK is intended for customers and partners who want to programmatically accomplish many of the administration tasks that are available on the Windows Live Admin Center web site in addition to tasks that are not available on the Web site, such as importing and exporting user lists,” the company explained. “The SDK uses the Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP) remote procedure call (RPC) 1.1 standard for communication between client applications and the web servers for Windows Live Admin Center.”
