A new version of the Home Computer Restore CD (Dual Boot) for Windows Home Server is available for download via Microsoft Connect. According to Todd Headrick, the product planner for the Microsoft Windows Home Server, the beta build of Home Computer Restore CD (Dual Boot) is designed as the evolution of the original product. Headrick explained that Microsoft received negative feedback related to glitches in the previous Home Computer Restore CD, errors which managed to affect full restore processes of home computers.

"The Home Computer Restore CD (Dual Boot) is a new version of the Home Computer Restore CD that provides two options for you, depending on the amount of RAM in the home computer you are trying to restore. The final version of the Home Computer Restore CD (Dual Boot) will be part of the Power Pack 1 media refresh later this year, and will also be made available via the Microsoft Download Center to existing home server customers," Headrick said.

At this point in time, Microsoft is testing the beta of Home Computer Restore CD (Dual Boot) for Windows Home Server. The download is delivered as an ISO file that will need to be burned on a CD. Because of the pans to integrate Home Computer Restore CD (Dual Boot) into Power Pack 1, it appears that the current beta will be fully mature by June 2008, when PP1 for Windows Home Server is scheduled to hit.

"The Windows Home Server team would like to invite you to download a beta version of the 'Windows Home Server - Home Computer Restore CD (Dual Boot)' from Microsoft Connect. If you have not previously registered for the Windows Home Server connect site, then you will need a Windows Live ID and need to follow the instructions on the Windows Home Server Connect home page," Headrick added.
