Live OneCare is not too efficient

Windows Live OneCare is the security tool designed by Microsoft meant to enhance the security of the computers equipped with Microsoft's operating system. The product was released on May 31, 2006 and is currently Vista compatible to make the application even more secure. It seems like the product is more vulnerable than secure because AV Comparatives conducted a new test over the most known antivirus solutions and Microsoft's tool was the weakest antivirus program.

Windows Live OneCare discovered only 82.4% of 500.000 malicious files, the failure representing the second deficiency identified in Microsoft's application in this month. The first failed test was conducted by Virus Bulletin, OneCare being unable to detect all the infections provided by the testers.

"Microsoft OneCare performed very low in the test, and did not reach the minimum requirements for participation," wrote Andreas Clementi, senior tester at AV Comparatives, in the report about the tests. We are looking closely at the methodology and results of the test to ensure that Windows Live OneCare performs better in future tests. Microsoft is trying to determine whether any learnings from these tests can be used to improve our services as part of our ongoing work to continually enhance Windows Live OneCare to ensure the highest level of protection and service that we can provide our customers," a Microsoft representative sustained according to BBC.

It seems like the security of our computer is more threatened by the vulnerabilities and the failures identified in the security tools than the hack attempts conducted by the attackers. Symantec's Norton Antivirus, McAfee's Antivirus, Kaspersky and other security solutions are continuously the subject of security alerts. Windows Live OneCare was also tested by Softpedia and is available as a free download on this link.
