Microsoft Answers was not the only website suffering an overhaul this week, with the Redmond company’s online hub for the embedded and componentized versions of its Windows operating systems also being revamped. The new Windows Embedded site has already been launched and customers can check out the changes introduced via this link.

According to Microsoft’s Olivier Bloch, the redesigned is focused on putting customers at center-stage and streamlining the way in which they can explore the software giant’s embedded business.

“The main goal of this overhaul is to make content more discoverable for all Windows Embedded audiences,” he said.

One aspect of the overhaul involves the introduction of new resources. It appears that the volume on content available through the Windows Embedded site has no less than quadrupled with the introduction of the redesign.

Bloch also opted to highlight a number of additional enhancements to windowsembedded.com, among which:

“•Increased discoverability through search engines: Each page, file and nugget of content has been optimized for search engines;

•Not just for pre-sales developers anymore: the site now offers something for all our Windows Embedded audiences: Developers (pre- & post-sale), IT Pro, BDM, TDM, Enterprises and Consumers;

•Developer content organized by Top Tasks;

•Worldwide events search.”

Obviously, the revamping started on the surface, and in this regard, the redesigned site is certainly cleaner, more polished and bound to turn up to be more user friendly than its predecessor.

However, the promise from Microsoft is that the Windows Embedded website will continue to evolve well into the second quarter of 2011.

“And this is only the beginning as over the next 6 weeks new features and functionality will be added to the site to enhance the experience… stay tuned for updates!” Bloch explained, even though, at least for the time being, he did not share any additional details.
