Windows Embedded POSReady 7 Write Filter Management Tools Released

Customers running Windows Embedded POSReady 7 can now download two tools designed to simplify the work related to the File Based Write Filter (FBWF) and the Enhanced Write Filter (EWF).

Appropriately dubbed the Enhanced Write Filter Management Tool for Windows Embedded POSReady 7 and File Based Write Filter Management Tool for Windows Embedded POSReady 7, the release are up for grabs free of charge via the Microsoft Download Center.

Designed as out of band features for Windows Embedded POSReady 7, the tools serve to monitor and configure FBWF and EWF.

“The Enhanced Write Filter Management Tool has a dependency on the Enhanced Write Filter Provider. This Provider ships with all versions of POSReady 7,” Microsoft reveals.

“The File Based Write Filter Management Tool has a dependency on the File Based Write Filter Provider. This Provider ships with all versions of POSReady7. However there is an update to the originally shipped Provider that must be installed,” the company adds.

Update for Windows Embedded POSReady 7 (KB2539566) was released a few months ago and is designed to resolve issues related to EWF.

Similarly, Update for Windows Embedded POSReady 7 (KB2570814) comes to deal with a potential problem in FBWF.

The two refreshes mentioned above must be installed before customers deploy the new EWF and FBWF tools, the software giant stressed.

“By default the application will start on system start and will register a notification area icon. The settings, however, allow suppressing the automatic starting. The tool can be started with a command line parameter to open either the overview dialog or (for users with administrative privileges) the configuration dialog. If the tool is started with a command line parameter, the tool will exit as soon as the respective dialog is closed,” the Redmond company said.
