A new download offered free of charge from Microsoft is capable of simplifying the work of developers building applications on top of the company’s latest iteration of Windows Embedded. Windows Embedded Developer Update, which is now live on the Microsoft Download Center has been put together in order to streamline the manner in which devs access Windows Embedded Standard 7 updates. According to Microsoft, the application brings to the table various functionality, including automatic search, download, and installation of refreshes for Windows Embedded Standard 7.

“You can use Windows Embedded Developer Update to update the developer tools and distribution shares for Windows Embedded Standard 7. Windows Embedded Developer Update can automatically notify you when updates are available. You can then use Windows Embedded Developer Update to download and install the relevant updates for developer tools and distribution shares,”

Microsoft wrapped up the successor of Windows Embedded Standard 2009 earlier this year, relabeling the release Windows Embedded Standard 7, in order to highlight the fact that the platform has the Windows 7 client at the core. Customers can now either buy the operating system, or download a free trial edition and make up their mind if they’re not convinced to make a purchase. You will be able to find download links at the bottom of this article.

“Windows Embedded Developer Update creates temporary directories with names in the form sandbox-xxxx at the root of the system drive. Sometimes, the sandbox-xxxx directories are not automatically deleted after Windows Embedded Developer Update finishes using them. However, the sandbox-xxxx directories that remain do not interfere with the operation of Windows Embedded Developer Update and do not interfere with other applications, though they take up disk space,” Microsoft added in the Windows Embedded Developer Update Release Notes.
