In Microsoft's grand scheme of a digital lifestyle, there is absolutely no room for Windows XP Service Pack 3. It's just Windows Vista Service Pack 1 from start to finish. In this
context, Microsoft's vision manages to ignore and exclude in excess of 70% of operating system users world wide who are hanging tough with XP SP3 even with the advent of Vista, and the evolution delivered by SP1. Vista is, of course, preferred, but the Redmond company's perspective at this point in time is shared only by a little over 16% of the market, some 160 million users.

With the latest Windows client at the core, Microsoft is building a view of the market in which over 70% of Windows users do not fit, unless they upgrade from XP to Vista. The concept of Digital Lifestyle may very well span to Windows Live and to Windows Mobile, Zune, Xbox and additional Microsoft technologies, but it is a Vista-centric universe to say the least. Back in February, Microsoft U.K. unveiled the Windows Digital Life website proving this point to perfection.

Now the perspective is expanding from home users to small businesses. The small business-dedicated website presents various scenarios including security, mobility, and productivity. "The marketing guys in the UK recently put together some nice scenario videos last month showing the many different uses of Vista and other software and services like those included in Live," revealed James Senior, Microsoft Partner Technical Specialist.

The new website can be accessed here, and it makes use of four videos, also embedded at the bottom of this article and additional information in order to attempt to convince small business users of the critical resource that is Windows Vista. But one thing is clear, as far as Windows is concerned, XP SP3 is completely out of the picture, whether you like it or not, it's all Windows Vista SP1 all the time.

When Vista is as easy to use as XP Pro, and when Microsoft listen to users, then I may go to Vista on my next computer if there is no alternative. I would hope that I could activate XP Pro on any replacement computer.
I would not change to Vista on my present one, as I do not want to have to pay for many of the extras (PCI cards, programs, etc) that would be necessary.
