Windows Defender is one of the products that received an update on Patch Tuesday, so in case you’re one of the many users running it to protect their computers, make sure you have already installed the new version as soon as possible.

The KB2894853 non-security update is designed for Windows 8.1, Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8, and Windows RT and is supposed to bring a series of improvements for Windows Defender.

“Install this update to improve protection functionality in Windows Defender. After you install this item, you may have to restart your computer,” Microsoft says in the official description of the patch.

Basically, this update brings anti-tampering enhancements to the anti-malware platform, as well as hardening improvements and some changes to the Windows Defender Offline remediation functionality.

Although it’s a non-security update, this particular patch is being delivered to users via Windows Update, so it is automatically shipped to your computer if you’re running any of the aforementioned Windows versions. Just make sure you connect your device to the Internet in order to download it.

Additionally, you can also get it via Microsoft’s Download Center and install the patch manually, but it’s only intended for system administrators whose computers are not connected to the Internet.
