Windows Defender build 1.1.1592.0 has expired as of January 1, 2007. Well, actually, the expiration date was December 31, 2007. In its place, Microsoft is delivering Windows Defender
1.1.1593.0 available for download right here on Softpedia for both 32-bit and 64-bit platforms. With the expiration of 1.1.1592.0, Microsoft informs that the version 1593 of Windows Defender will have to be downloaded and installed manually. But first, the Redmond Company advises users to remove Windows Defender 1.1.1592.0 from their systems.

I don't know what does Microsoft understand by expired, but today, January 2, 2007, my Windows Defender build 1.1.1592.0 was up and running with no problems. I even performed a system scan, and it worked as a charm. Apparently: "No unwanted or harmful software detected. Your computer is running normally." Great!

At no time was the functionality of Windows Defender build 1.1.1592.0 reduced in any manner. The security solution did not inform me that it has passed its expiration date and when I performed a scan for updates, it returned no results, claiming that he had found nothing.

Indeed I had to uninstall build 1.1.1592.0 and then download Windows Defender 1.1.1593.0 and install it manually. As I am running Windows XP, I could do this with no issue involved. However, version 1593 no longer delivers support for Windows 2000. Windows Vista users needn't worry about downloading Windows Defender as the product is integrated into the operating system.

Microsoft Windows Defender 1.1.1593 has been tested by Softpedia as being 100% Clean and is available for download here.
