Microsoft published a new self-assessment in the STAR, for Windows Azure

The latest installment of Microsoft’s Cloud Fundamentals Video Series is focused on a second self-assessment in the STAR, destined for Windows Azure.

The new episode of the series comes as a follow-up of a video published in early January, which was meant to discuss the problem of transparency, Tim Rains, director, Trustworthy Computing, explains.

That video was also focused on discussing the manner in which Cloud Security Alliance’s (CSA) Security Trust and Assurance Registry (STAR) offers insight into how cloud providers are managing the security controls of their cloud offerings.

Rains also points out that one of the first services that published a self-assessment in the CSA’s STAR was Microsoft’s Office 365, and that the Redmond-based software giant published a second self-assessment in the STAR, only that it is destined for Windows Azure this time.

“This means that customers or potential customers who are evaluating security practices for Office 365 or Windows Azure can use these self-assessments to understand whether these services fulfill the security, compliance and risk management requirements that their organizations have,” Tim Rains explains.

“This information will help cloud customers save time, effort, and money in their efforts to understand how the security of these services is being managed. You can download these assessments directly from Microsoft or from the CSA’s website.”

In the new video of Trustworthy Computing’s Cloud Fundamentals Video Series, which can be seen embedded below, Rains discusses the new STAR assessment for Windows Azure with Kellie Ann Chainier, a Cloud Business Manager from Microsoft’s Worldwide Public Sector team.

You can have a look at the previous video that Microsoft’s Trustworthy Computing team published with focus on transparency here.

Other videos in the series are also available, meant at bringing to the spotlight various other aspects that businesses should take into consideration when choosing a cloud services provider, including security, privacy, compliance, benchmarking, and more.
