Microsoft’s Cloud offers plenty of computing power for customers with super-computing needs to take advantage of.

According to the software giant, applications can be deployed in a high-performance computing infrastructure in the Microsoft Cloud.

The Redmond company is even offering a software development kit to make it easier to push HPC apps into the Windows Azure.

The Windows Azure HPC Scheduler SDK is a collection of resources available free of charge via the Microsoft Download Center.

“The Windows Azure HPC Scheduler SDK, and is supplements, include modules and features that developers can use to create Windows Azure deployments that support compute-intensive, parallel applications that can scale when offered more compute power,” Microsoft said.

“The Windows Azure HPC Scheduler SDK enables developers to define a Windows Azure deployment that includes built-in job scheduling and resource management, runtime support for MPI, SOA, web-based job submission interfaces, and persistent state management of job queue and resource configuration.”

It might be a good idea for devs to make their way to the Windows Azure Scheduler for Parallel Applications page on MSDN and access a range of additional resources on top of the SDK.

Of course, code samples are provided by Microsoft to simplify their work as much as possible. The webpage also offers documentation and guidance for developers to make the best of Windows Azure with their HPC applications.

According to the company, the Windows Azure Scheduler enables customers to manage HPC jobs, performing tasks such as scheduling and monitoring.

“The Windows Azure HPC Scheduler SDK works with the newest version of the Windows Azure SDK (v1.6) which includes its own cool set of features,” the software giant added.

What’s important is that even projects built for on-premises deployments of Windows HPC Server 2008 R2 can be transitioned into the Cloud and stake advantage of the Windows Azure Scheduler. Windows Azure HPC Scheduler SDK is available for download here.
