Reports that reached the web a few days ago revealed that Microsoft is planning to bring back the Start Menu in a future Windows release, thus trying to make the modern platform a bit more user-friendly.

Now Mary Jo Foley of ZDNet is adding, via undisclosed sources, that Microsoft is internally calling the Start Menu “mini-Start.”

While there are no details as to what the upcoming feature could look like, the name of the Start Menu indicates that it could be just a simple list of installed applications, so it’s not clear whether it would still provide access to documents, pictures, and music files.

At the same time, nobody can tell for sure whether the Start Menu would indeed return in Windows Threshold, which is supposed to be either a major update for Windows 8.1 or the future full release of the operating system known to us as Windows 9.
