14 DAY TRIAL // The Start menu will return in a future Windows version, that’s for sure not only because Microsoft itself confirmed this at the BUILD developer conference this year, but also because screenshots showing it in action are reaching the web these days.
A new report published by The Verge and citing people close to the matter reveals that Microsoft is working to make the Start screen capable to maximizing to the entire screen and cover your whole desktop.
The purpose of this feature is to make the Start menu work like a Start screen and given the fact that it would also integrate live tiles and other modern design elements, such an idea pretty much makes sense.
The Start menu would only be part of Windows 9 versions installed on PCs and devices with a mouse and keyboard, while touch-capable devices, such as tablets, would get the Start screen and no menu.
As usual, we should take everything with a pinch of salt because Microsoft hasn’t confirmed anything to so far. And still, given the fact that Windows 9 is expected to debut in early 2015 and comes with a Start menu, the screenshots that we get to see these days are most likely genuine and captured in an early version of the operating system.
