Windows 9 is expected to make modern Windows more appropriate for both desktops and tablets, but as far as Tim Bajarin, principal analyst at San Jose, Calif.-based Creative Strategies, is concerned, the new operating system will make touch-capable devices a lot more appealing.

In a statement for HoustonChronicle, the analyst talked about Microsoft’s chances to help the PC market with its future projects, pointing out that Windows 9 had the potential to lend a hand to companies relying more on touch-capable devices.

"[Windows 9 will offer] the best touch-based version they've ever had and help them in PC sales," he said, while also adding that Microsoft would have to compete with lots of rivals on the hardware market.

Although we’re pretty sure that he doesn’t have more information than we do, Windows 9 is indeed expected to add some improvements in terms of touch features, with some sources saying that the Modern UI is very likely to get new options and functionality.

The Start screen, for example, will only be available on tablets where it really makes sense, while PCs will directly boot to the desktop and get instead a Start menu.

At the same time, the Start screen could get interactive live tiles and folder support, with the first presented by Microsoft Research as a concept earlier this year.
