For the moment, most will migrate to Windows 7, he adds

More than 28 percent of the desktop computers worldwide are still running Windows XP right now, but many users are expected to migrate as soon as possible, as support for this OS version ends in April.

But Michael Spears, CIO at NCCI Holdings, told TechRepublic that most Windows XP users won’t actually migrate to Windows 8.1, as Microsoft hopes, but to Windows 7, which is “clearly the best bet,” in his opinion.

And still, this is going to be just a temporary decision, as the majority of Windows XP users will then abandon Windows 7 and move to Windows 9. Of course, this would only happen if Windows 9 is much more appealing than its predecessor.

“Hopefully, we'll be able to leapfrog [from] Windows 7 to 'Windows 9', bypassing Windows 8 just as we did Windows Vista,” he added.
