Microsoft wants to forget of Windows 8 as soon as possible

Earlier today, we’ve learned that Microsoft might actually make Windows 9 free of charge for those running Windows 8, in an attempt not only to boost adoption of its new operating system, but which might also have some hidden goals.

As you know, Windows 8 performed well below expectations and adoption remained really low, especially in the first months on the market.

Many users actually criticized the company for the changes it made to the operating system and focusing so much on touch-optimized features, and all these controversies clearly contributed to a really disappointing market performance.

Windows 9 could change quite a lot of things about Windows 8, and according to recent reports, Microsoft might make this new OS version free of charge for those who have already updated to the modern platform.

Why? Read on to find out.

Microsoft itself admitted that Windows 8 was a flop

Even though it has never admitted it publicly, Microsoft isn’t quite pleased with the way Windows 8 performed, and according to some internal sources, the top executives indeed said in some meetings with employees that this modern OS performed below expectations.

The first indications that Windows 8 might not meet expectations appeared in early 2013, but Microsoft denied them on every single occasion, explaining that its new OS version was recording the same success as its predecessor.

Many months have passed since then, and Microsoft has also introduced several other updates, but Windows 8 adoptions still remain low, so all eyes are now on Windows 9, as Microsoft hopes to finally bring more users on its modern platform.

Windows 9 should help Microsoft get over Windows 8

Windows Vista is known as one of the biggest flops in Microsoft’s history, and Windows 8 is not really that far.

Many actually called Windows 8 “the new Vista,” so it’s no surprise that Microsoft is struggling to make Windows 9 available as soon as possible.

The company hopes that once Windows 9 becomes available, more users will give it a shot and forget about Windows 8. And what better way to do that than by offering Windows 9 free of charge to those on Windows 8?

Of course, everything seems just right on paper, and there’s no doubt that Microsoft not only wants but also needs Windows 9 to be a huge success, so a freeware license pretty much makes sense.

It remains to be seen, however, if Redmond is ready to go on with this plan to make Windows 9 available at no cost to those on Windows 8, but more information will be provided later this month, during a new press event in San Francisco.
