Designer creates a new interpretation of the Windows operating system

Development plans for Windows 9 are expected to be announced next month at the BUILD developer conference, but designers across the world are already hard at work to create concepts based on the existing information on the next full version of Windows.

This concept created by DeviantArt user myownfriend brings a completely new version of File Explorer that relies on eagerly-anticipated features such as tab support.

Basically, a tabbed File Explorer would make it easier for users to manage their files, especially thanks to drag and drop support, the designer explains.

“In a tabbed File Explorer you would just drag those files to the other tab. Similarly, I would add the ability to drag files to the taskbar thumbnail of a folder. This was actually a feature I wasn't sure if we already had but upon testing it, I realized we didn't,” he pointed out.

At the same time, the concept also comes with a new ribbon that’s again supposed to make managing files easier, but also with a Recycle Bin icon in File Explorer that would allow you not only to delete files faster, but also to access removed items with just one click, without the need for a desktop icon.

“I added Recycle Bin as a location in the navigation bar/pane. It's always annoyed me that there's no other easy way to access it if you disable it from appearing on the desktop, this is my way of fixing that,” the designer explained his decision to implement such a feature.

According to existing rumors, Windows 9 is expected to launch in April 2015, approximately one year after the debut of Windows 8.1 Update 1. Word is that Microsoft is preparing some pretty important changes, including a brand-new Start Menu that would make the operating system a lot more familiar.

What’s more, people familiar with the development process have indicated that Metro apps will be able to be used right on the desktop in their very own windows, which would basically mean that the Modern UI will receive another chance to impress.

Windows 9, however, will stick to the existing desktop – Modern UI combo, but there’s no doubt that the software giant will tweak it in such a way that it would become much more appealing for traditional PC users, while also trying to attract those who purchase tablets and mobile phones. More information on Windows 9 will be provided next month, so fingers crossed for the return of the Start Menu.
