Designer creates a new interpretation of Windows 9

We’ve already seen what the new Microsoft operating system looks like in several Windows 9 leaked screenshots, but some people with really great designing skills aren’t really satisfied with the subtle interface changes prepared by the Redmond-based software giant and are working on their very own concepts proposing a bigger makeover.

This is the case of this new Windows 9 concept created by fediaFedia and imagining a new and more appealing look for the desktop.

As you can see for yourselves by browsing the gallery below, the desktop adopts a much more Metro-ish design, which brings it in line with the whole trend started by Microsoft when it first introduced Windows 8 in October 2012.

Of course, such a design won’t be part of Windows 9, but there’s no doubt that Microsoft would do itself a favor by looking at these concepts to see what people actually expect from Windows.

New Start menu and notification center

Windows 9 will indeed come with a notification center inspired from Windows Phone 8.1, but the design we’ve seen in the leaked screenshot is rather simple.

This time, however, the concept imagines a notification center that has everything you need, including information regarding the weather forecast, and lets you perform a number of tasks straight from this window.

At the same time, the concept also comes with a new start menu, which was “redesigned to be more minimalist and neutral,” as the designer claims.

“The menu can be resized vertically by dragging its top border up. Tiles and menu items can be scrollable using the mouse wheel,” he adds.

Other changes will also be available, including windows colors, so “Developers can define the color of the titlebar, just like the icon and the icon. You can remember that Spotify is green, Netflix is red, VLC is orange and so on,” he continues.

Microsoft sticks to the classic desktop look

In terms of UI improvements, Microsoft isn’t making too many changes to Windows 9’s desktop, but a few subtle improvements are indeed expected to be introduced.

The desktop, however, will be mostly the same as in Windows 8, with the exception of a few icons and some minor improvements here and there.

The Start menu will indeed come with live tiles and other modern elements and will expand as you add more items. A manual resizable mode is also expected to be available.

More on the changes that Microsoft actually plans to make in Windows 9 will be provided next month, during a private press event in San Francisco.
