14 DAY TRIAL // Earlier this week, a Windows 9 concept that reached the web came to fix some of the problems with Microsoft’s modern operating system by changing some of the visual elements and introducing a Start Menu and several new options.
This time, Andrew Ambrosino and his Windows 8.2/Windows 9 concept attempts to save the modern platform by introducing some of the features rumored to make their way to the operating system sometime in the future.
While the Start Menu is not included in this concept, the designer explains that it’s essential to allow users to run Modern apps on the desktop in their very own windows.
“Everyone’s happy – traditional users can stick to the multi-window desktop mode, lovers of the new stuff can continue to use their apps full screen, and the aesthetic inconsistencies of the two modes fade away.
“Tablet users can experience the way Windows exists now and desktop users can enjoy the new functionality. And Microsoft can even decide what’s enabled based on the size of the device,” the designer explained.
At the same time, Ambrosino states that Microsoft should focus more on device flexibility and allow users to run multiple apps at the same time without limiting them to a horizontally split-screen mode.
“Running mail and 4 other apps all in 1:12 aspect ratio doesn’t do a whole lot either. So while I think Windows 8.1 has an excellent tablet UI model, that’s where it’s truly appreciated. But Microsoft has the advantage of making an operating system for every device from 4 inches to 100 inches,” he added.
