It’s not a secret anymore that Microsoft is developing a completely new version of Windows that could be launched in early 2015, but while the company chooses to remain tight-lipped on this project, there are plenty of details that we hear about via unofficial channels.

The latest information in this series is a fresh build that appears to confirm that Microsoft advances with the development of Windows 9, as evidence of a completely new version was found online.

As Microsoft News reports, Windows 8 developer Artem Shuba revealed on Twitter that Windows 9 build 6.4.9788.0 has been spotted in Windows Store app logs, meaning that Microsoft might after all present the very first beta of this operating system soon enough.

As you can see, Windows 9 is expected to make the switch to kernel 9.4, but everybody saw this coming, mostly because this is a completely new Windows version that’s very likely to integrate quite a lot of changes, such as new features, a revised interface and options that would better separate the desktop and tablet versions.

According to people familiar with the matter, Windows 9 is very likely to debut in early 2015, with two preview versions to be offered to users and developers a few months before the public launch.

What’s more, there are some rumors that Microsoft could unveil the very first beta of Windows 9 later this month at the Worldwide Partner Conference which kicks off on July 13. Although that’s very unlikely, sources says that Microsoft is finally ready to break the news on Windows 9 and reveal some of the features that could be part of the operating system.

At the same time, Microsoft is also said to be working on a second and even a third update for Windows 8.1 that could bring additional improvements to the modern operating system.

Redmond announced at the BUILD 2014 developer conference that a future Windows release would also include a Start menu and while everyone expected Windows 8.1 Update 2 to bring such a feature, it appears that the company prefers to wait until Windows 9 to bring back this very popular option.

As always, keep in mind that all of these are just rumors and nobody knows for sure whether Microsoft is indeed ready to disclose Windows 9 project information, so take everything with a pinch of salt until we get a confirmation. However, more details are expected to be provided as soon as the company clearly advances with the development of this new operating system.
