Yesterday's reports indicated that Microsoft might launch Windows 9 beta in July

Although there's no confirmation on this, Microsoft is believed to be working on three new Windows projects that could be released in the coming months, namely Windows 8.1 Update 2, Windows 8.1 Update 3, and Windows 9.

Redmond has remained completely tight-lipped on all of these until now, but information coming via unofficial channels indicates that Microsoft is very close to present not only Windows 8.1 Update 2, but also the first beta of Windows 9.

Russian leaker WZor said in a short tweet yesterday that Microsoft might use the Worldwide Partner Conference, which kicks off on July 13, to introduce both operating systems and thus confirm that it's working not only on a second update for Windows 8.1, but also on a completely new operating system named Windows 9.

Both of them are likely to be on stage at next month's event, WZor said, as Microsoft wants to keep users fully up-to-date with the work it's doing on the Windows platform.

While such news is indeed very appealing for everyone, we highly doubt that Microsoft wants to bring Windows 9 on the same stage, at the same event, with Windows 8.1 Update 2. There's no secret that Windows 9 is an eagerly awaited operating system, and presenting it at the same time with another Windows 8.1 update might actually mean that it's stealing the attention of all the other products.

What's more, Windows 9 is expected to debut in early 2015, most likely in April, May, or June, so unveiling a beta version so soon is very unlikely since a lot could change until the final product is unveiled.

Windows 9 is expected to bring a lot of novelties, including desktop improvements, such as a Start menu, which would be specifically designed to make the operating system better for the traditional desktop computer. A desktop version of Cortana, Microsoft's personal assistant available on Windows Phone 8.1, could also debut in Windows 9, sources say.

Even though Microsoft doesn’t want to comment on the product lineup that might make it to the next month's conference, there's no doubt that this year's WPC is going to be a very interesting event for Windows users and not necessarily thanks to Windows 9.

On the other hand, Windows 8.1 Update 2 is very likely to be unveiled during the show, since its debut is expected to take place in August or September, but again, Redmond is really doing a terrific job when it comes to hiding absolutely all details from us.
