If you’re really trying to figure out whether Windows 8 is a successful product or not, it pretty much depends on who you ask.

While Net Applications data for the month of June 2013 claims that Windows 8 is now the third top operating system in the world, statistics provided by StatCounter suggest otherwise.

According to this new set of figures, Windows 8 is only fourth in OS rankings, with a market share of 5.94 percent and still behind Mac OS X with 7.43 percent.

Unsurprisingly, Windows 7 continues to be the clear leader in the OS world with 52.62 percent, followed by the 11-year-old Windows XP that’s still powering 21.06 percent of computers worldwide.

And still, Microsoft expects a significant boost in Windows 8 adoption in the coming months, as a result of the public launch of Windows 8.1 Preview.
