14 DAY TRIAL // A special Microsoft campaign states that all those who purchase a Windows 7 computer after June 2 are allowed to migrate to Windows 8 for $14.99 (€11.5), while users of previous Windows versions need to pay $39.99 (€30) for the same upgrade.
The upgrading process, which is performed with the help of the Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant, previously required users to input the name and the manufacturer of the Windows 7 computer manufacturer and, after a quick check, it automatically started downloading Windows 8.
It turns out, however, that Microsoft has changed this routine to also ask users to input the Windows 7 product key, according to a report by Neowin.net.
Although the company is yet to confirm this publicly, it could be just another security measure to make sure that users have actually purchased a new computer running a genuine Windows 7 copy.
