With Windows 8, Microsoft is going to step up its NUI (natural user interface) efforts quite a bit, both in relation to the operating system, as well as with applications designed to run on top of the platform. According to one job post from the Redmond company unearthed by Mary-Jo Foley, members of the Windows Live team will be creating new touch-oriented experiences for Windows 8.

At least when running on next generation form factors, Windows 8 will sport a new immersive UI, perfect for NUI apps.

The software giant has yet to confirm officially just what kind of touch experiences is the Windows Live team building for the successor of Windows 7.

“The next version of Windows, codenamed “Windows 8” (http//j.mp/win8jlg), emphasizes touch-first, modern experiences. Want to get involved? Come join the team building photos/videos experiences for the new platform. We believe in shipping fast, fluid, immersive experiences to consumers, enabling them to effortlessly do spectacular things. Past work from this team includes Photo e-mail (http://j.mp/wlmphomail), Photo Fuse (http://j.mp/wlpgpf), Pano Stitch (http://j.mp/wlpgps), and AutoMovie (http://j.mp/wlmmam),” reads an excerpt from the job post.

“We’re now working on new touch-oriented experiences that allow the hundreds of millions of consumers easily communicate with their friends. We offer an environment where you can channel your creativity towards software innovation, work with world-class software engineers and hone your professional skills to grow your careers.”

There are little details available on Microsoft’s plans so far, but in effect, it makes perfect sense for the company to build NUI apps for its NUI OS.

Microsoft needs to lead by example, and provide developers worldwide with a taste of the experiences made possible by Windows 8.

The job post further adds: “We are seeking a great developer who will help build the next generation of touch-oriented e-mail experiences for consumers. You will be working with an experienced group of developers with a successful track record of building new experiences such as those found in Windows Live Writer and Windows Live Mail.”

The software giant is reportedly hard at work developing Windows Live Wave 5 in parallel with Windows 8.
