The new operating system still needs time to take off

Asus is one of the companies that are betting big on Windows 8, as the PC maker has invested heavily in the new Microsoft operating system by releasing new devices capable to make the most of its features.

And, even if it reported a Q2 2012 revenue increase of 14 percent, Asus says that Windows 8 still needs time to take off, as the early uptake figures are below expectations.

“The acceptance of Windows 8 in Q4 has not been so good, but touch-based Windows 8 notebook acceptance is pretty good on our side,” Asus Chief Executive Jerry Shen was quoted as saying by ZDNet.

“At this moment, for last year and this year, I believe Windows RT needs to take time to ramp up.”

According to official statistics, Asus sold a total of 3 million tablets in the fourth quarter of 2012, but keep in mind that only 5 percent of its tablet range is actually using Windows-based operating systems.
