Microsoft would better step in front of the media and provide us with some updated Windows 8 sales figures as soon as possible, as analysts around the world continue to blast the company’s operating system.

After a report released by market researcher IDC revealed that Windows 8 made no difference in the PC industry in the first quarter of 2013, Nomura analyst Rick Sherlund tells the Wall Street Journal that Microsoft’s new Windows contraption is still affected by a “sluggish adoption,” even though five months have passed since the public launch.

As a result, Nomura has downgraded Microsoft’s shares from the “Buy” rating to “Neutral.”

“The combination of Windows 8's sluggish adoption and the absence of compelling new hardware have been disappointing, with no relief likely until later this year. We would be more hesitant in putting new money into the stock and prefer to sit on the sidelines and reassess the upgrade cycle as we go into the second half,” Sherlund is quoted as saying.
